| | | | | | Chronicles of an Apprentice Named Julia: Part I | | | | by: Tory Hagen posted: June 2010 | | | | | | | | I have longed for many years the opportunity to take someone under my wing and teach them the secrets of being a Christian. I have tried to teach what I have learned but have not gotten a good reception from those listening. It is difficult for Christians to believe that the light that is the Lord’s presence within them can be used to cleanse and heal themselves. I believe they actually think it is a new teaching, which it most certainly is not.
Nevertheless, I am honor bound to give the knowledge to someone and see that it grows in them and on to others. Who better to pass on the knowledge to than my own daughters.
My oldest daughter, she is 9 years old, is ready to be taught the lessons of being a Christian. I will start with her reading the New Testament and sit with her explaining the backstories and significance of the scriptures as we go along. We will read one chapter at a time starting with the book of Matthew. I do not want to overwhelm or bore her as the Bible can be dry and difficult to follow to the uneducated.
In addition to our daily readings, I will have her memorize the 23rd Psalm, the Lord’s Prayer, and the Apostles’ Creed. Those three literary pieces are dear to Christian hearts. They bring comfort to the mind and strength of will where there might not otherwise be any. They are definitely a good foundation for her to know by heart and ingest into her psyche.
The goal is for her to be ready for baptism and then be baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It is my duty as a servant of God having been placed as parent over Julia to guide her in that direction. Once she is baptized then the Lord will work His will through her. I will then rest easier as she will be on the path of forming a lastly relationship with the Lord that cannot be broken by any of human or spirit kind.
