My family took a last minute trip to a popular touristy ocean front town. There was a razor clam festival being held and we caught wind of it late. Having not taken a vacation for quite awhile I made then impromptu decision to go.

We were not sure what to expect or if we would see or do everything this festival offered. Going out and digging for razor clams was part of the festivities. Neither I nor my wife have dug for razor clams before so we sought to get equipped and hastily educated on the topic.

Luckily my wife’s college buddy and his family were at the same ocean front community and have been razor clamming for years. We hooked up with them and took to the beach rubber boots and clam gun in tow. That was us and thousands of other razor clam fans. The beach was nearly shoulder to shoulder with clam hunters.

At the end of the day I pulled two baby razors and put them back into the wild after my disappointment. Our friends only caught two that day after coming out the previous day with 30 from another beach. The beach where we were on was clearly picked nearly clean.

Our friends felt bad for us not getting a least one clam so they invited us back to their townhouse for a good chinese style razor clam feast. The company and food was excellent and especially the fresh catch from the beach. We had a good relaxing evening that a vacation should include at least one of.

Tired from the amateur attempts at digging up a meal we headed back to our condo. Our girls and puppy were exhausted and so were we. We quickly set up for bed and after a few episodes of a favorite TV show we hit the sheets and fell fast asleep. I was not expecting what happened next.

About 4am I was awoken abruptly by a flash of light that penetrated my eyelids and into my subconscious sleep. I thought I was dreaming so I went back to sleep. A bit later another flash happened and I was getting miffed. Then I heard some laughter in the vicinity of our window but no humans were there after looking out through the closed drapes and blinds. I turned and asked my wife if she saw the flash as she’s a light sleeper. She did but thought it was a flashlight from outside. Again, no human were out there. I closed my eyes and went back to sleep and it happened one last time. This instance I caught where the flash was coming from.

It was the lamp next to my bed. I shook the lamp and saw that it seemed to have faulty wiring and it dimly lit for a moment but I could not get it to give off a flash like it had been doing on its own.

Having heard the laughter I put two and two together realizing that a presence was pranking me. I immediately think of the enemy when these supernatural events occur so I threatened the ones that were doing this. I then raised myself up from my pillow and dared them to light the lamp once again. It sparked a tiny bit in a wimpy manner almost telling me they were hearing me and backing down.

Being satisfied I finally felt fine enough to go back to sleep. This time I was not flashed in the eyes. This time I slept but the battle was not taken to the subconscious level.

I was dreaming that I was back at my childhood home in my parents’ backyard. Two wolves popped out the fence line. I happened to have a shovel in my hand and steered them away and out of the fence line on the opposite side of the yard. Two more wolves came out. Again I chased them off with the shovel using both ends of it. I wanted to harm the wolves but my authority to do so was limited. I could only repel them.

Wolves are a symbolic representation of the enemy as written in the scripture of the Gospels.

"I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. The hired hand is not the shepherd who owns the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep. "I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me-- just as the Father knows me and I know the Father--and I lay down my life for the sheep. I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd.

I took the dream as a warning that the wolves are encircling my home and family. Though I repel them there are more to take the place of the ones I cast off. Not being able to harm them means my authority is weak and I need to up my relationship with the Lord and service to Him lest the wolves find a weakness to my defense and enter my home to harm my family.

The lights are not to be ignored either. Three powerful flashes of light filled the room. The number 3 is symbolic of the Lord. The little dim spark could also be symbolic of the light in myself - small and dim. It could be a warning that too much of the world’s influence is in me and not enough of the Lord God. Both the lights and the dream of the wolves indicate that this was the Lord speaking to me, though indirectly, and not the enemy at all. The Lord want me to up the ante and serve Him to the fullest as He wants everyone to do. I hear the call and will answer in service. May it be so!
